- often measured as vBMD (volumetric Bone Mineral Density), represents the mass of mineral (grams) divided by the total volume of the bone (cortical and trabecular combined, in ({cm}^{3}). This differs from standard DEXA scans (areal BMD) because it provides a true 3D measure of bone density
