• a transmembrane glycoprotein responsible for cellular iron uptake. It facilitates the transport of iron into cells via receptor-mediated endocytosis. The receptor binds to iron-loaded transferrin in the blood, internalizes it, and releases the iron into the cell before recycling the empty receptor back to the cell surface
