In parallel with this trend, there has been a growing recognition of the impact of right ventricular failure on outcomes in the intensivecare unit. VA-ECMO is well suited to treat right ventricu-lar dysfunction as it rapidly unloads the right ventricle, restoring the ventricle to its appropriate place on the starling curve as well as relieving the pathological venous congestion that is so deleterious with right ventricular failure.
