chronic unilateral vestibular loss(English)

  • requires a finding indicating unilateral loss of VOR function, typically using the caloric test or the head impulse test, and that the disorder has been present for 3 or more months. Traditionally the gold-standard test is the bithermal caloric test using nystagmography to measure the maximum slow component velocity of nystagmus. An abnormal response indicating a unilateral vestibular lesion is typically a > 24% reduced response on one side compared with the other normalized by the sum of all responses within the same subject, known as Jongkee's formula for vestibular paresis. The threshold for an abnormal study was developed based on results in control subjects and calculating the mean asymmetry plus two SD
