TRE

There are multiple definitions:

  1. Tumor promoting agent Response Element(English)

    • its consensus sequence is TGACTCA
    • CRE, SSRE
  2. thyroid hormone responsive element(English)

  3. tetracycline response element(English)

    • based upon the interaction between the tetracycline transactivator (tTA), consisting of the procaryotic TetR fused to the activator domain of the herpes simplex virus VP16 protein, and this responsive element, consisting of seven copies of the procaryotic tetracycline operator site (tetO) fused to a minimal CMV promoter. In the presence of tetracycline (tet), tTA loses its ability to bind TRE and the expression is shut off. A reverse transactivator (rtTA) has been derived from tTA by mutagenesis. In contrast to tTA, rtTA only binds TRE in the presence of tet. The latter system is likely to be useful for clinical applications, especially for progressive diseases such as neurodegenerative diseases
