PRM

There are multiple definitions:

  1. pattern recognition molecule(English)

    • the innate immune system includes a humoral arm, complementary to cellular recognition and effector function. These humoral, fluid phase molecules are as diverse as cellular sensors, and include Complement components, mannose binding lectin, surfactant proteins, ficolins and pentraxins. The pentraxin CRP was in fact the first PRM to be recognized as an antibody-like molecule recognizing the C type polysaccharide of pneumococcus. In general, humoral PRM behave as functional ancestors of antibodies, “ante-antibodies”. They recognize microbial moieties and tissue damage, activate Complement, promote phagocytosis (opsonic activity) and regulate inflammation
