Pseudomonas quinolone signal(English)

  • an alkylquinolone (2-heptyl-3-hydroxy-4-quinolone) that is chemically differentiated from the AHL signals of the las and rhl systems. Has been studied primarily in the context of its role as a quorum-sensing signaling molecule. Recent data suggest, however, that this molecule may also function to mediate iron acquisition, cytotoxicity, outer-membrane vesicle biogenesis, or to exert host immune modulatory activities. These signaling systems create a global regulatory network and are believed to regulate the expression of up to 12% of the P. aeruginosa genome
