- an enzyme in the nucleotide salvage pathway that occurs in many tissues, but appears to be highest in the liver in hepatocytes, Kupffer cells, and sinusoidal endothelial cells. PNP activity has been reported to a much lesser extent in heart and muscle. It has been used a marker for hepatocellular injury, but has also been used to help evaluate endothelial cell injury
