There are multiple definitions:
polycystic ovary morphology(English)
- may be diagnosed if the threshold for FNPO or OV is met on either ovary. It is plausible, however, that the use of a unilateral threshold could result in misdiagnosis for some patients. Historically, a FNPO = 12 was considered diagnostic. With improvements in ultrasound technology, however, that definition has become obsolete. Recent evidence-based international guidelines have suggested an FNPO threshold of 20 to 25 follicles per ovary. Alternatively, OV = 10 ml may be used when follicle resolution is suboptimal. FNPS is not currently recommended as there are not enough data to support its use
