  1. left ventricle/ventricular(English)

  2. lumbar vertebra(English)

  3. Lentivirus(English)

    • a recombinant, non-replicating human immunodeficiency virus. In contrast to other retroviruses, lentivirus can actively infect terminally differentiated cells. Lentiviruses have yet to be used in cardiovascular clinical trials, as a result of concern over long-term safety, but the recent development of non-integrating lentiviruses may make this vector a prospective option in the future. A major advantage of lentiviruses is that they are not inherently immunogenic. The efficacy of lentiviral transduction in cardiomyocytes is almost in same ratio in both in vitro and direct myocardial injection in vivo. However, lentivirus-mediated gene transfers have potential drawbacks due to a relatively high risk of mutagenesis in comparison to other vectors and consequently developing life-threating pro-arrhythmic effects
