IFAP

There are multiple definitions:

  1. intermediate filament associated protein(English)

    • protein that binds to intermediate filaments (IFs), linking them to other cell structures like membranes (desmosomes, hemidesmosomes), organelles, and other cytoskeletal elements, crucial for cell structure, migration, and signaling. Key examples include Filaggrin (aggregates keratin in skin), GFAP (Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein) (in astrocytes), and various size-specific proteins like IFAP-300kDa (binds vimentin in developing CNS/tumors) or the 48-kDa IFAP, helping create functional networks for mechanical support and cellular processes
