• a protein coding gene, being a stress-induced, ubiquitin-independent mitophagy receptor located on the mitochondrial outer membrane. Among its related pathways are selective autophagy and mitophagy. Deletion of Mst1 reverses FUNDC1 expression and thus re-activates protective mitophagy, effectively sustaining mitochondrial homeostasis and blocking mitochondrial apoptosis in reperfused cardiomyocytes
