• one of three concentric layers in the adrenal cortex. It secretes the weak androgen dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulfated form DHEA-S. Cells of the zR resemble those of the zF but contain fewer lipid droplets and more lysosomes and vacuoles
