single embryo transfer(English)
- the most effective strategy for reducing multiple pregnancy rates in IVF cycles is to reduce the number of embryos transferred. Researches have shown that a mandatory SET could result in a dramatic decrease of multiple pregnancy rates. The number of embryos to be transferred should be limited to eliminate quadruplet pregnancy and keep the rate of triplets to 1%–2% of all pregnancies. However, SET could also cause a sharp decrease of pregnancy rates when embryo quality is poor. Thus, the selection of good quality embryos is critical in SET, and longer culture of embryos until day 5 is recommended whenever possible. However, in some patients, day-5 embryo transfer (ET) is impossible due to some unfavorable factors, such as poor embryo quality. For these patients, day-3 ET is mandatory and day-3 double embryo transfer (DET) for the second cycle could be considered
