N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide(English)
- prohormone with a 76 amino acid N-terminal inactive protein that is cleaved from the molecule to release brain natriuretic peptide. Actively upregulated as a counterregulatory response to myocardial stress and stretch. Used to diagnose or rule out heart failure. Its level within the first week of a high-risk MI is associated with incident HF, death and atherosclerotic events. This prognostic information is independent of hs-cTnT
