non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis(English)
- the condition is associated with hypercoagulability states, and commonly associated with malignancies that primarily involve mucin-releasing adenocarcinomas. These malignancies often arise in the lung, ovary, biliary system, pancreas, breast, and stomach. Hematologic malignancies and bone marrow transplantation have also been associated. Also referred to as marantic, thrombotic, verrucous or Libman–Sacks endocarditis, and characterized by the presence of sterile vegetations on the heart valves. The vegetations are composed of platelets and fibrin, which are prone to systemic embolization
