intradialytic parenteral nutrition(English)

  • commonly prepared from base solutions. The base solutions for amino acids, carbohydrates, and lipids can vary in concentrations. Up to 10% of essential and nonessential amino acids, 50% or 70% d-glucose and 10%–20% lipids, or the solution can also be prepared lipid free. Trace elements, vitamins, and selected minerals can be included. Such solutions can be tailored to individual patient needs. When given, it is initiated at the beginning of hemodialysis and is infused into the venous line distal to the dialyzer. The infusion is usually planned to be completed about 25–30 minutes before the end of the hemodialysis session
