nitroxyl(English)

  • chemically related to nitric oxide but pre-clinical models and early phase studies suggest that its mechanisms of action are markedly different. HNO causes post-translational modification of thiol residues and, in particular, cardiomyocyte sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ adenosine triphosphatase, ryanodine receptors, phospholamban, and myofilament proteins. Importantly, in vitro studies demonstrated inotropic and lusitropic effects by increasing calcium sensitivity and calcium handling efficiency rather than by increasing intracellular calcium concentrations
