• since 1990 the growth of these Medicaid-funded services reflects the development in US long-term care policy. These services can range from periodic help with shopping and cleaning to full-time assistance with ADLs. Community-based services include adult foster care and adult day care programs, which are drop-off centers providing assistance, and include social and companion services for older adults. A key principle of long-term care is that it should be delivered in a setting consistent with the preferences of the individual and their family members
