- transports long-chain fatty acids from cell membrane to mitochondria. Activated by PPAR-α signaling. Enhances uptake and use of long-chain fatty acids. FABP5 deficiency aggravates cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, and dysfunction, and it causes severe impairment to mitochondria in the heart with increased oxidative stress and reduced mitochondrial respiration
