acute colonic pseudo-obstruction(English)

  • refers to pathologic dilation (≥ 9 cm) of the colon without underlying mechanical obstruction, occurring primarily in patients with serious comorbidities. Diagnosis is based on clinical and radiologic grounds, and it can be treated conservatively or with interventions such as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, decompressive procedures including colonoscopy, and even surgery; aka Ogilvie’s syndrome, colonic pseudo-obstruction
