- produced by monocytes and macrophages. It mediates crosstalk between bone marrow and the heart. Inhibits cardiac hypertrophy and augments SERCA2a to attenuate pressure-overload induced heart failure. Induces cardiomyocyte proliferation to improve postinfarction cardiac function. Silencing and upregulation modulate exacerbates podocyte survival in nephropathy
