• develop during the maturation and somatic recombination of the B cell receptor locus, and their copy number correlates with the number of freshly formed naïve B cells. Low levels in particular can be due to secondary causes such as maternal immunosuppression during pregnancy (e.g., azathioprine, rituximab) and therefore careful history-taking is required
