GLUT1

glucose transporter protein isoform 1(English)

  • is the predominant isoform of the fetus, first glucose transporter to be cloned and is one of the most intensively studied of all membrane transport proteins. Its amino acid sequence is highly conserved and 98% identity exists between the sequences of human and rat type and 97% identity between the sequences of human and mouse, rabbit, or pig. This high degree of sequence conservation implies that all domains of this 492-residue protein are functionally important. After birth, GLUT1 decreases, and other isoforms such as GLUT2 in the liver and GLUT4 in the muscle increase
