BoNT

botulinum neurotoxin(English)

  • protein neurotoxin produced by neurotoxigenic strains of anaerobic and spore forming bacteria of the genus Clostridium (Clostridium botulinum, Clostridium butyrricum, Clostridium barati, and Clostridium argentinensis). However, an open reading frame similar to these genes was identified within the genome of Weissella oryzae, a bacterium that shares some biologic niches with Clostridia. This BoNT-like is indeed a metalloprotease that cleaves vesicle-associated membrane protein like tetanus neurotoxin. Induces a flaccid paralysis because it intoxicates the neuromuscular junction
